The words below are the actual wording you’ll see on your ballot. The referendum fails to mention that every town with a video gambling ordinance began with a limited number of gaming licenses, only to see significant expansions over time.

In just a few years, as new mayors and commissioners are elected and bars and restaurants push for additional licenses out of fairness, no town can avoid the rapid growth and the increased difficulty in regulating signage and messaging.

If this gaming ordinance passes, on the first day it would be downtown at the Moose Lodge and Tivoli Theater, and would quickly spread into our cherished historic, family-friendly downtown area.

Shall the Village of Downers Grove permit video gaming only for establishments holding (i) restaurant liquor licenses and located outside of the Downtown and (ii) club and recreational facilities liquor licenses, with restrictions placed on the number of licenses, the number of terminals, terminal configuration, terminal visibility, establishment proximity to churches and schools, and with no allowance whatsoever for video gaming cafes, in the Village of Downers Grove, County of DuPage, State of Illinois?
